James is an audit partner in Citrin Cooperman’s Financial Services practice. James is an experienced professional with over 20 years of experience in auditing and accounting.
Throughout his career, James has provided a wide variety of accounting and audit services to financial services industry clients, including private equity funds, venture capital funds, credit funds, hedge funds, investment management companies and broker-dealers. He has extensive technical experience in ASC 946, Financial Services - Investment Companies; ASC 820, Fair Value Measurements and Disclosures; AICPA - Valuation of Portfolio Company Investments of Venture Capital and Private Equity Funds and Other Investment Companies - Accounting and Valuation Guide; ASC 810, Consolidation; and ASC 606, Revenue Recognition.
Prior to joining Citrin Cooperman, James worked as an audit partner in KPMG’s Alternative Investments practice. While at KPMG James’ clients ranged from emerging managers to complex multinational fund complexes. In addition to his client responsibilities, James was involved in developing and delivering training, was the lead partner for recruiting at Baruch College, and produced thought leadership related to the asset management industry. Before moving into public accounting, James started his career as an accountant in private industry. His time in private industry included roles as an assistant controller for a facilities management firm and as a controller and Series 27 Financial and Operations Principal (FINOP) for a broker-dealer. His experience in both private industry and public accounting gives him a unique perspective into the challenges his clients face, allowing him to serve them as a trusted business advisor.
