Harold Shulman, JD, CPA
Hal Shulman, a tax partner, has more than 45 years of experience providing tax, estate, and financial planning for closely held businesses and high net worth individuals.
Hal was the senior partner of the accounting firm Shulman Cohen Furst, which joined Citrin Cooperman in 2006.
With a specialization in the summer camp industry, Hal provides a wide array of services including tax and cash flow planning, payroll, and advising best practices in the hiring of international staff.
Hal also provides comprehensive tax planning to closely held companies, ensuring liabilities are kept at a minimum and entities are structured properly. He is well-versed in consulting strategies in the area of mergers and acquisitions and works collaboratively with other parties involved in the transaction so his clients experience the best possible outcome.
As a member of the firm’s Trust and Estate Planning group, he works closely with clients to enhance all aspects of their financial health, including financial planning, creating succession plans, preparation of estate tax returns and transitioning ownership to the next generation.
Presentations and Publications
Hal has served on various tax committees of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). He has presented numerous lectures for the NYSSCPA and has published several articles in their magazine, The CPA Journal.
Hal is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the NYSSCPA, the NYSBA, the American Bar Association (ABA), and the American Association of Attorney-CPAs (AAA-CPA). He served as International Treasurer for B’nai B’rith International for five years, with his final term ending in 2009. The Anti-Defamation League honored Hal with the Wolfe Duberstein Human Relations Award, and he was also honored by the B’nai B’rith Banking and Finance Unit with their 2012 Man of the Year Award.
Education & Licenses
Hal earned his B.S. in Accounting from New York University. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and a Masters in Tax Law from the New York University School of Law. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York and has been admitted to the Bar of the State of New York.
